Cell Phone Chargers in Clearance at Office Depot

If you're looking for another charger or car charger for your older or basic cell phone, Office Depot on Broadway has a box of them up front clearanced for..... $0.50!

The chargers were universal to fit all or most of different brands of phones including Sony Ericsson, Nokia and at least five-six other brands that I remember.

Know what you have in storage

While I was packing over the weekend I found that in my bathroom closet, I had not four or five or six, but eight extra body washes for the husband. I knew I didn't need to "buy" any more free ones from CVS or Walgreens, but I had no idea I had that many!

Having extra means I can give some of it away, which is great, but in the mean time: my closet was getting too full! It's always smart to go through your storage and make sure things aren't going to expire or go to waste before you can use them.

Right Place at the Right Time... sort of

Sometimes it seems like deals are only about being at the right place at the right time, but really, that isn't so.

Here's an example:

Manager's Special, $0.59

If you buy or have ever bought Amy's chili, (vegan, gluten-free and happens to be my favorite canned chili) you know $0.59 is a crazy, low price. How did I get such a deal?

On Sunday I needed one item from the grocery store, so I ran over to the store to pick it up. I was in the right place at the right time, but here's the strategy part--even though I was only getting one item, I still quickly scanned the produce and health food departments, and I quickly looked over the manager's special bins located in a few places around the store. In other words, I've trained myself to always be on the look-out.

When I found these in the mark-downs, the price wasn't yet on them. I found the manager close by (we had already said hello to each other--get to know the staff at your most frequented stores), and he paged help. Help arrived, the price was marked and I said, "I'll take them all!"

Always scan for deals, Know the employees and Don't be afraid to ask questions!

Three Rivers Market coupon matchups

Here are the Three Rivers Market coupon matchups for the rest of January. Couponing in Critical Times is now coordinating with Money Saving Maine-iac to bring you as many coupons match-ups as possible. Thank you both for all your hard work!

Go get some deals at The Book Eddy

If you don't know, The Book Eddy is moving to Central Street near Magpies and The Glowing Body. The new store will be called Central Street Books and its focus will change somewhat as well. Please take the time to visit their new Facebook page to learn more about the new store, and don't forget to "like" it!

Since they are closing down The Book Eddy, they are trying to clear out the old store and have lots of books on sale as a result. From their Facebook page:
"Lots of books left. Still adding books from upstairs daily. Open Friday afternoon, 3-?; Saturday 10-6; Sunday 1-5. Everything $1.50 or less. Plenty of book cases still available. Everything outside is free."

Be sure to stop by and help them clear out all these books. Books are fun to read but aren't fun to move!
Working on moving my own books!

Vegan General Tao's Tofu--Delicious!

I didn't really have any particular New Year's resolutions in my personal life this year. Our goals--such as selling our house this spring/summer--are pretty simple, and we've been working toward them for about the last six months.

For the blog, however, I do have a resolution to incorporate this year--post more recipes! I'd like to try out something new once a month, so my goal will be to share twelve recipes this coming year. And here's the first one:

General Tao's Tofu! (Vegan) from

Um, personally, I think someone who worked at PF Chang's at some point made this recipe because after making this I no longer have a need for their Mo Po Tofu dish. Move over, restaurant food, this is much better!

My tips: read through the comments, make extra sauce, and for your first try, don't make this without a helper.

Manager's Specials at Kroger Asheville Hwy

I jotted down a few details, but a big one is Earth's Best formula for $11.99 or so. About five containers were available as of Wed, 1/12.

They also have Kashi cereal (sorry, I took all the Strawberry Fields), organic sodas, broths, and other items marked down in a bin.

The bin is located in the healthy/nautural foods section.

Carpe Librum Booksellers 50% off

In November I learned that Carpe Librum Booksellers would be closing down at the end of 2010. See here. This weekend they are doing their markdowns, so it's time for booklovers to get some deals and sadly, to say their goodbyes as well.

Everything will be 50% off on Sat, Jan 8 and Sun, Jan 9.

Thanks for the heads up, Couponing in Critical Times! (<--click for additional info)

Free Museum Day for Tennesseans

On Saturday, January 15, many museums across Tennessee will have free admission! I'm not much of a "boring" museum tourist, so this is my husband's chance to drag me out to a few more.

The thing is, I usually have a great time and find out that most museums aren't boring at all--take for instance, the Oak Ridge Children's Museum: plan to spend a FULL day enjoying their life-size doll house, water room, and the list goes on... After I discovered how fun it was, I started visiting at least two times/year. My daughter could spend a week in there. Yes, they are on the list of participating museums & attractions.

Thanks, Coupons Are Money!

A surprise gift from the hubby!

Now I'll have something to wear for the second annual coupon fair! (It's still in the planning phase, so stay tuned.)
